Mechanical engineering is one of the first disciplines offered at NTU. Over time, the Faculty has continuously expanded its scope and scale of training to meet the increasing and diverse demands of the industry.  Thousands of graduates from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering have made significant contributions to the modernization and industrialization of the country. The research works of the professors, doctors and engineers from the Faculty have been applied in many enterprises in the country. Generations of the Faculty members and students have held key leadership positions in state agencies, enterprises, training and scientific research, leaving profound impacts in the historical development of the mechanical engineering discipline.

Currently, the Faculty has over 1,000 students. Our staff body contains more than 40 experienced faculty members of which 60% hold masters or doctoral degrees.

The Faculty has three departments: Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics, and Thermal Engineering.

Undergraduate programs:

1. Bachelor in  Manufacturing Engineering

The program is designed to equip students with essential knowledge and skills so that they are capable of addressing professional problems involved with designing, manufacturing, utilizing, operating, repairing and maintaining mechanical devices, machine tools and equipment as well as the ability to deal with mechanical and technological concerns in a production line.

2. Bachelor in Mechatronics

The program provides students with the educational environment, study activities and necessary skills to achieve success in the field of mechatronics to serve production activities in daily life.

3. Mechanical Engineering

The program helps students develop their capacity, be able to creatively apply professional knowledge in production activities for mechanization and industrialization of the country, including mechanical engineering in fisheries.

4. Bachelor in Thermal Engineering

The program aims to equip learners with the basic, general knowledge and essential skills needed to achieve career success in the field of thermal engineering.

Mechanical Engineering

The master program helps learners update, supplement, and improve professional knowledge and skills; have the ability to work independently and apply technical advances to detect and solve complex problems in the design, manufacture and maintenance of mechanical equipment or thermal systems to serve production activities, especially fisheries.

Along with the key task that is training, the Faculty has developed many research projects, many of which have been effectively applied in practice or marked as important innovations in the field.  Currently, the Faculty is promoting research on the issue of product design and development, CAD/CAM/CIM, automation and mechatronics, seafood processing and aquaculture equipment, and renewable energy.

- International cooperation

The Faculty has also been actively cooperating with international institutions in Japan, South Korea,  China, the Russian Federation, Norway, and, the Czech Republic. Our activities mainly focus on exchanging students and, lecturers, academic research, and advanced training technologies from developed countries, as well as improving research and teaching capacity.  The Faculty is implementing a joint training program in Mechanical Engineering with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Technical University of Liberec, Czech Republic (FS TUL). After completing the second phase (in FS TUL), students of the program receive bachelor degrees granted by the FS TUL, then they can pursue master or doctoral programs at the FS TUL.
