Nha Trang University (NTU) was established in 1959 as the Faculty of Fisheries under Hanoi University of Agriculture, presently known as Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA). Over the course of more than 65 years of continuous development, NTU has grown to become one of the nation’s leading institutions in education and research within the field of fisheries. The University has made significant contributions to the socioeconomic development of the South Central Coast, the Central Highlands, and the country at large.
As of 2024, Nha Trang University had developed a comprehensive portfolio of academic programs, including 11 doctoral programs, 19 master's programs, and 36 undergraduate disciplines, covering more than 60 specialized fields of study. As reported in May 2025, the University’s academic workforce consists of over 660 staff members, including 33 professors and associate professors, 152 doctoral degree holders, and 328 master's degree holders, over 60% of whom have received their professional training in developed countries.
In pursuit of academic excellence, the University continues to expand its training capacity, modernize infrastructure, foster academic innovation, and improve teaching and learning methodologies. These efforts align with the University’s strategic objective to transform NTU into an applied-oriented institution and, ultimately, a research-oriented university.
