1. Introduction
The Department of Finance and Banking at Nha Trang University (NTU) offers high-quality undergraduate (4-year) and postgraduate (2-year) programmes in finance, banking, investment and risk management. The programmes focus on practical knowledge, equipping students with the skills required to work in banks, businesses and financial institutions.
Objectives: To provide a comprehensive foundation of knowledge in Finance and Banking, enabling students to develop analytical thinking, evaluation skills and the ability to effectively resolve practical issues; whilst honing professional skills to confidently integrate into and adapt flexibly to the ever-changing global economic environment.
2. History of Formation and Development
The Department of Finance and Banking is one of the core and reputable training units at Nha Trang University. With a rich history of development, the Department has established itself as a centre for training, scientific research and technology transfer in the field of finance and banking in the South Central and Central Highlands regions.
3. Career opportunities and job roles after graduation
- Career opportunities: With a solid foundation of specialised knowledge, graduates are capable of taking on a wide range of roles, from operational positions to senior management:
- Finance and Banking Operations Group: Credit officers, transaction officers, project appraisers, foreign exchange traders, securities traders, and investment portfolio managers.
- Management & Control Group: Corporate Finance Specialists, Tax Consultants, Financial Auditors and Internal Auditors.
- Career progression: Advancement to leadership roles such as Head of Operations, Branch Manager, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) or research and teaching specialist.
- Working environment: Commercial banking systems, securities firms, insurance companies, investment funds, tax authorities, the State Treasury, or finance departments within domestic and international enterprises.
- Postgraduate training: From September 2025, the university will officially launch the Master’s programme in Finance and Banking (code 8340201).
4. Educational Mission
The Department is tasked with training specialists in the fields of finance and banking at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, equipping them with sound moral character, good health, aesthetic sensibility, and independent, creative thinking, alongside a solid foundation in socio-economic knowledge and specialised expertise in accounting and finance, thereby meeting societal demands; with the aim of providing high-quality human resources for enterprises, banks, financial intermediaries, accounting and auditing bodies, and tax authorities within ministries, sectors and other state agencies.
5. Development Strategy
a) Continue to consolidate, enhance the quality of, and develop existing study programmes by: innovating and developing specialised curricula in line with those of other countries in the region; and developing a system of advanced textbooks, lectures, exercises and learning materials to support teaching and learning.
b) Strengthen scientific research and its application in the fields of finance and banking.
6. Academic Staff
Currently, the Department has 16 academic staff members, including 1 Associate Professor, 2 PhD holders, 13 Master’s degree holders, and 5 PhD candidates. The Department’s teaching staff possess professional expertise and are enthusiastic about learning and research; as a result, they are able to meet society’s demands for training and scientific research. Furthermore, the Department has established and continues to build a network of collaborators within businesses, banks, securities firms, audit firms, tax authorities and other organisations to provide students with practical work experience.
