The Department of Biotechnology, formerly the Institute of Biotechnology and Environment, is a key academic unit of Nha Trang University dedicated to biotechnology and environmental sciences in the fisheries and life sciences fields. With more than three decades of development, the Department has evolved from a central laboratory founded in 1992 into a comprehensive unit integrating education, research and technology transfer.
Located on the 2nd floor of the Institute of Exploitation Building at 09 Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street, Nha Trang City, the Department of Biotechnology builds on the legacy of Institute of Biotechnology and Environment in supporting undergraduate and postgraduate training and providing laboratory services for the whole university. Its staff engage in scientific research projects, development programs and consulting activities that address biotechnology and environmental issues in aquaculture, seafood processing and related sectors.
The Department focuses on applying advanced biotechnology and environmental technologies to serve sustainable development of Vietnam’s fisheries and marine economy. Core activities include conducting research and development, transferring technologies to local communities and industries, supporting environmental impact assessment, food safety and quality assurance, and conserving aquatic genetic resources. Through close collaboration with national and regional partners, the Department of Biotechnology contributes to innovation, human resource development and evidence-based policy in biotechnology and environmental management.
