Attending the meeting, there were more than 40 delegates representing member units and partners of the project including: Osfalia University (Germany); Nha Trang University; Kien Giang University; Ha Long University; Hai Phong Seafood Research Institute; Khanh Hoa Fisheries Department; Siam Brothers Company; Truong Phat Company; Vietnam Fisheries Association; Vietnam Tuna Association.

        At the meeting, delegates heard updates on the project's progress; Reported on the implementation of the project's professional work packages such as communication, international publication, data processing results, and training... Delegates discussed the implementation of the major goals include: reducing unused, lost or discarded fishing gear due to coastal fishing activities; implementing a closed economic cycle in the fisheries industry, aiming to create a market for recycled raw materials; designing environmentally friendly recycled products: the project will offer alternative solutions, i.e. recycling more and using ecologically friendly materials. On this occasion, delegates also participated in field surveys at several locations such as Hon Ro port, Tri Nguyen island, and visited businesses operating in the field of recycling...

        The REVFIN project is implemented by Osfalia University (Germany) in collaboration with Nha Trang University and partners in Vietnam. The project focuses on solving the problem of fishing net waste in Vietnam's waters to reduce the amount of unused, lost or discarded fishing nets, and raise awareness to avoid the loss of fishing gear for businesses/fishermen and fisheries management agencies as well as Vietnamese society in general. The project aims to reduce environmental impact and create a market for recycled raw materials from these sources to create a closed value chain. At member universities of the REVFIN project (including: Nha Trang University; Ha Long University; Kien Giang University), capacity-building activities for lecturers and students will be focused on. This will help strengthen the ability to design modern, environmentally oriented curricula; attract interest and create a place where businesses from Vietnam's plastic industry of about 2,000 businesses can receive help to develop recycled materials and new products. This opportunity will enhance the innovation capacity of Vietnamese businesses to reduce waste in the sea. Along with that, courses integrated with science communication within the project framework will also be an opportunity for universities to fulfill their mission of spreading knowledge and innovation to society.
