According to the researchers, the amount of lutein in marigold is very high and nearly pure in comparison with other sources in nature. Lutein extracted from fresh blossoms of marigold has a level of purity >92%, a total amount of Carotenoid >96%, and, a retrieving productivity of lutein >52.83%, while lutein from the powder of dry flowers extracted by Soxhlet technology contained Carotenoid >82%, and a retrieving productivity of lutein >75%. The researchers also refined and evaluated the quality of lutein color powder tablet, lutein oil, and these types of products had low prices.
The success of the study contributed greatly to the utilization of Lutein in the food industry as a replacement for synthetic artificial colors having a high risk of toxicity.
