Summary of VLIR-NETWORK Vietnam project
During the two days of October 26-27, 2023, at Can Tho University, the Steering Committee of the VLIR-NETWORK Vietnam project (Programme of Network University Cooperation for Research Based Education on Bioscience for Food in Vietnam) organized a summary of the project after more than 10 years of implementation in Vietnam (2013-2023).
Participating in the project are representatives of schools and institutes in Vietnam including: Can Tho University, Nha Trang University, Hue University, Vietnam Academy of Agriculture, and Aquaculture Research Institute II. The Belgian side includes two schools: Gent University and KU-Leuven University. The project has built a network of schools and institutes providing training in two majors: Aquaculture and Food Technology between Vietnam and the Kingdom of Belgium. Evaluating the project results after 10 years, Prof.Dr. Koen Dewettinck, the project coordinator, is proud and satisfied with the achievements, and the responsible participation of schools and institutes has contributed to the project's success.
Some main activities and results have been achieved: building and training international graduate programs in 2 majors: Aquaculture and Food Technology; Exchange of staff between Vietnamese and Belgian universities, lecturers from Vietnamese universities are trained and study to improve their professional and foreign language skills at Belgian universities; improve professional capacity for graduate students and graduate students through summer courses; Lecturers and students are able to attend and present reports at prestigious international scientific conferences; credit exchange between Vietnamese schools and institutes; sharing and using facilities and laboratories among Vietnamese institutes, co-implementing research projects and international publications among Vietnamese institutes.
During the implementation of the Project, a number of notable achievements have been achieved such as: Training 102 Masters from 22 countries; 60 staff trained to improve their qualifications in teaching methods; 41 rounds of staff were exchanged between schools and institutes; 44 lecturers have improved their English proficiency; Expanding the cooperation network to schools in Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar.
