INSTITUTE FOR MARINE SCIENCE AND FISHING TECHNOLOGY

Institute of Marine Science and Fishing Technology was established in 2011 from the Faculty of Fishing Technologies - one of the first 7 Faculties of the University - with the task of training and conducting scientific research and technology transfer in the field of fisheries and marine science. The Institute is one of the leading educators in the national fisheries sector with many strengths such as fishing gear manufacturing; developing new fishing techniques; marine engineering; maritime law; safety of fishing vessels; fisheries oceanography; power and marine radio - fishing; ship controlling; fisheries management; and management of fishing boats.
The Institute’s staff members includes 9 Ph.Ds., and 11 Masters. All were trained in countries with developed fisheries industries such as Australia, Norway, Russia and Iceland. Professional development is one of our key strategies to improve the qualifcations of staffs, and provide a diverse range of training and research skills for their graduates. Thank to these, the Institute has been successful in maintaining its leading position in training, scientific research and technology transfer in the field of fisheries.
We focus on the research and survey of fisheries resources, improvement of fishing gear and fishing technologies to enhance production efficiency and protection of fisheries resources as well as applications of advanced technologies in mining and post-harvest storage. Some examples of our research achievements are technology transfer of crab traps in sea waters along Vietnam coast, LED applications for offshore purse seine fishery, mixed gillnet fishing, long-line squid fishing, and building artifcial habitats
