Within the framework of the project "Innovation of the Vocational Training System towards Vietnam's Sustainable Growth" (Vietskill), on November 10, 2022, Nha Trang University - the project leader in Vietnam organized a seminar with the topic "Developing professional skills for workers in the Food Processing Industry in Vietnam".

Developing professional skills for workers in the Food Processing Industry in Vietnam

Attending the seminar were scientists from the Vietskill project, central and local agencies in Khanh Hoa province, universities, colleges, and businesses operating in the field of food technology. On the side of Nha Trang University, there were the attendance of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Trang Si Trung – Rector of the University; Dr. Quach Hoai Nam - Vice President of the University and representatives of related units.

At the seminar, a representative of Copenhagen Business School (Denmark) presented the project's research results on occupational skills of workers in the food technology industry in the world and in Vietnam; propose models of cooperation between training institutions and enterprises in the food processing industry. Scientists from organizations and schools participating in the seminar also shared about the model of training cooperation in the seafood processing industry in Vietnam. Besides, the representatives of enterprises gave more information about vocational skills training at enterprises and the cooperation models with training institutions are currently being implemented.

The food processing sector contributes significantly to the country's economy; however, the main export product is still raw materials. Upgrading the sector requires both public and private investments in processing technology, branding and marketing, packaging, traceability and management. Upskilling the workforce in this industry is one of the key stages in the upgrade path, which requires close interaction between educational institutions and business units. This seminar is an opportunity for delegates to discuss cooperation models. thereby making proposals and recommendations on guidelines and solutions to develop workers' skills, and at the same time meet the development needs of the food processing industry in Vietnam in the new period.

Particularly, Nha Trang University, the Department of Seafood Processing Technology, under the Faculty of Food Technology is one of the traditional training disciplines of the University with more than 60 years of age. With an effort to increasingly improve the quality of training, Nha Trang University has developed many cooperation activities with businesses in this field. Typical in the seminar was the cooperation with Minh Phu Seafood Corporation to create opportunities for students studying Seafood Processing Technology to receive financial support, as well as to receive training in accordance with the requirements of the enterprise. In addition, ensuring professional skills and improving soft skills with 100% of graduates being arranged jobs at enterprises. This is a new model that is currently very interested in implementing with the goal of improving the quality of training and creating a new generation of workers with high professional skills and labor productivity that meet regional and world standards.

The project “Innovation of the vocational training system in Vietnam for sustainable development” is a collaborative research project between Copenhagen Business School (Denmark) and partners in Vietnam, Nha Trang University, Nguyen Tat Thanh University, Ministry of Planning and Investment, and Vietnam General Administration of Vocational Education. The project, funded by the Danish government, is aimed at solving problems in the next phase of Vietnam's industrialization.
