Objectives

The master program in aquaculture provides students advanced knowledge and skills so that they can work independently to apply research in practice, be able to operate new culture techniques, and organize production at different scales, from small-hatchery to industrial production.

After graduating, master students will have good qualification to take different positions such as leaders or managers of the state aquaculture sector or specialists of national and international companies; researchers and lecturers of national or international institutions; be able to proceed with PhD level at the leading universities in aquaculture in the world.

Learning outcomes:

After graduating, students will be able to:

• Master knowledge on biology and physiology of aquatic animals at different life stages;
• Master knowledge on aquaculture captive breeding and farming;
• Master knowledge on animal health and nutrition, selective breeding programs;
• Understand aquatic environment and the impact factors of the aquatic environment on aquaculture and vice versa.
• Be managers and /or in charge of techniques for aquaculture hatcheries and farms;
• Self-organize research activities related to aquaculture.

Duration:

18 months

Tuition fee:

Vietnamese student: 40 million VND/course; foreign student: 3,600 – 4,000 USD/course.

Scholarship and financial assisstance:

Five full scholarships from Institute of Aquaculture – Nha Trang University are available for excellent applicants based on admission evaluation.  Scholarships include living allowances and experimental expenses during last 6 months of the course when master student does his/her master thesis.

Vietnamese applicants who are members of minority groups or from remote areas will be considered for tuition waiver or tuition discount depending on circumstances.

Other added values:

Opportunities to collaborate in doing research with experienced professors and instructors from well-known universities in the world, including Nha Trang University.

Eligibilities:

Candidates are expected to have basic background in aquaculture and related fields (Aquatic pathology, Aquatic resources management, Agronomy, Animal husbandry…) or fields that taken the combination of basic subjects of (i) mathematics, biology, physics; (ii) mathematics, biology, chemistry, and attained grade of at least distinction at the undergraduate level (GPA>2.5/4.0).

English proficiency requirement: candidates holding BSc degree from a program where English is not the language of instruction need to have obtained a score of 5.0 on the IELTS test (or equivalent). Candidates obtaining an IELTS score of 4.5 can apply but he/she has to follow an English training course offered by Nha Trang University after admission.

Evaluation procedure:

• Vietnamese applicants will take an NTU’s admission test (October 23-24^th, 2021).
• International applicants will be evaluated based on application profiles.

Deadline of application:

August 30^th, 2021.

Notification of acceptance:

2^nd week of September, 2021 (for international applicants)

4^th week of October, 2021 (for Vietnamese applicants)

Starting date for study:

November 25^th, 2021 (tentative)

• From abroad: professors from prestigious and experienced universities in aquaculture MSc and PhD training such as University of Ghent (Belgium), James Cook University and Curtin University (Australia). .
• From Vietnam: lectures, who are from prestigious universities including Nha Trang University, Can Tho University, Hue University, and Vietnam National University of Agriculture, are experienced in teaching, research and graduated from many reputable universities in the world.
