From its origins as a specialized fisheries training institution, Nha Trang University has grown over 50 years of development in Khanh Hoa Province into a major multidisciplinary higher education center. To date, Nha Trang University has educated nearly 75,000 bachelor’s degree holders and engineers, 4,405 master’s graduates, and 123 doctorates, continually integrating education and scientific research with local and regional socio-economic development.

Dr. Quach Hoai Nam, President of Nha Trang University, delivers an address at the anniversary ceremony.
On October 4, Nha Trang University held a ceremony to commemorate its 50-year anniversary of growth and development in Khanh Hoa Province (October 4, 1976 – October 4, 2026). The event was attended by leadership representatives from Khanh Hoa Province, partner institutions, public agencies, as well as generations of faculty, staff, and students.
Fifty years ago, on October 4, 1976, the Ministry of Marine Products decided to relocate the Fisheries University from Hai Phong to Nha Trang. The move transferred the university's entire faculty, staff, students, equipment, and academic operations to the South Central Coast region. From this landmark event, the university progressively expanded its academic disciplines and aligned its scientific research directly with the practical demands of Khanh Hoa and the broader region.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Ha, Vice Chairman of the Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, speaks at the ceremony.
Building upon its core foundation in fisheries training, Nha Trang University has evolved into a comprehensive multidisciplinary institution offering 39 undergraduate, 17 master’s, and 9 doctoral degree programs, with a student population exceeding 17,000. Alongside academic training, numerous research achievements in aquaculture, fisheries exploitation, processing, marine environmental conservation, resource preservation, and the blue economy have been successfully transferred and applied to production and community livelihoods.
Addressing the ceremony, Dr. Quach Hoai Nam, President of Nha Trang University, emphasized that the 50-year journey in Khanh Hoa has established a strong foundation for the institution to advance educational innovation, boost scientific research, accelerate technology transfer, and deepen partnerships with local authorities and enterprises. The relationship between the university and Khanh Hoa Province has elevated from a traditional school-locality association into a dynamic co-development partnership.

Following the ceremony, provincial leaders and university executives attended the inauguration and naming ceremony for two campus avenues named "October 4th" and "August 1st". These names honor key historical milestones in the university's history: October 4, 1976, marks the relocation of the Fisheries University to Nha Trang, initiating its 50-year chapter in Khanh Hoa, while August 1st commemorates the university’s Traditional Day.
The official naming of the two campus roadways not only enhances the university’s architectural landscape but also preserves historical milestones, serving as an educational tribute to tradition for generations of faculty, staff, and students.

By 2045, the university aims to rank among Vietnam’s top 20 universities. Science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, and close integration with regional growth demands will serve as primary driving forces on the journey ahead.
