On July 24th, 2025, Nha Trang University welcomed a delegation from the Australian Embassy in Vietnam with a formal reception, signifying a pivotal milestone in bilateral cooperation in maritime affairs and sustainable development. The working session took place in a constructive atmosphere, with the participation of senior representatives from both parties.

The Australian delegation comprised Ms. Charlotte Cullen, Assistant Director at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT); Ms. Eleanor Kennon, First Secretary for Maritime Affairs at the Australian Embassy in Hanoi; Dr. Michael McKenzie, Head of Maritime Design; and Ms. Tanya McQueen, Head of Official Development Assistance (ODA). Representing Nha Trang University, Prof.Dr. Pham Quoc Hung, Vice Rector, presided over the meeting, accompanied by leaders from the Department of International Cooperation, the Institute of Marine Science and Fishing Technology, and the IUU Project Management Board.

Overview of the working session.
The working session was primarily devoted to deliberations on ongoing maritime cooperation initiatives between the two parties. Especially, both sides conducted comprehensive discussions on the Monitoring, Control, and Surveillance (MCS) training program, alongside strategic measures to prevent and mitigate illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing activities. These domains in which Australia and Vietnam are working together to promote sustainable management of marine resources, contributing to environmental protection and improving economic efficiency.

Furthermore, the parties broadened their dialogue to encompass additional domains, including marine scientific research, technology transfer, and prospective avenues for future collaboration. Moreover, Prof.Dr. Pham Quoc Hung underscored the pivotal role of Australia’s support while reaffirming Nha Trang University’s commitment to closely coordinate for the effective implementation of joint projects.
The working session concluded with preliminary agreements and a roadmap for sustained cooperation, heralding opportunities to strengthen the relationship between Nha Trang University and Australian partners, with a shared emphasis on advancing sustainable development in the maritime and fisheries sectors.
